Subliminal Messages are everywhere you look. And whether you see them or not, they affect your subconscious thoughts and cravings.
This is also how Product Placement works; they display pictures or hints in movies or posters that you see in everyday life, and sometimes on a daily basis. As your eyes see the obvious display, your subconscious sees the hidden images behind and around it.
An obvious example is American Idol: Coca-Cola pays the judges to drink from Coke brand Cups on the show so that everyone watching at home subconsciously sees the word 'Coke', when their eyes and mind are actually focused on the judges speaking.(Bet some of you don't even remember seeing the cups, huh) Not only on t.v. today, it's even in childhood movies like original Disney cartoons!
This is the video that I found on Youtube a while ago that inspired my topic for this blog. It shows sexual subliminal messages in the most famous Disney Cartoon Movies. I have nothing against Disney, i just thought it pretty interesting that this kind of innuendo is in Cartoon Movies! For Children!
Check it out:
Crazy right!? Maybe you've seen it before? All i know is that it that it blew my mind that I never realized what i was watching all through my childhood! Pointed out, these examples seem pretty obvious, but no one has noticed them in the first 30times they watch these classics as children... MY MIND = BLOWN.
Ohmy it is crazy how many subliminal messages are in movies, shows and advertisments! I watch many children's shows with the boy I babysit, and while I find the messages funny, it is extremely innapropriate of the creators to put that in a kids show. Also, you're right, people rarely notice things like the Coke cups, so there's really no point. Great choice for your blog!
ReplyDeleteI find subliminal messaging very interesting because like you said it's something we don't catch it right away. I'm interested in seeing your upcoming posts but I am a little skeptical about the video. I have never seen any of those in the video but then again they are “subliminal messages” but I believe some of those were altered to be perceived as a “subliminal message”. Especially the message in the Lion King with the dandelions in the sky I didn’t see the “sex” any where in my opinion they made it seem like it was there even if it wasn’t. ;) Another one is when the character says “take off your clothes” I didn’t understand that phrase at all! I think they just chose to hear it… but you never know.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good point Sam, it is conceivable that the Youtube video creator altered or exaggerated the clips to match his point of view. On the other hand, I've seen for myself the actual Disney films paused on my own screen with the same images the poster outlined, and heard the same phrases as were made louder in the clips in the video.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered what they put in the American Idol judges coke cups? I think Paula used to look drunk on some episodes. Also the video is crazy, because that is one of my favorite movies as a child and I can't believe I have never noticed it!
ReplyDeleteIt's really amazing how complex the human mind is to see the hidden messages while the actual person doesn't even notice it. Just like you said these messages are everywhere but I never thought about the whole American Idol situation until you mentioned it. Also for the Disney movies now that I'm aware of this it's kind of sad to see that children movies are even trying to send out these hidden messages, that's basically ruinning a childhood memorie. All in all interesting blog, good job!
ReplyDeleteSubliminal messages are everywhere and they are sometimes hard to see, but the one of American Idol I remember those cups and I still prefer Pepsi. The messages in children movies find are planted by people who are against Disney, but you never know.
